Lil Nas X is back, and he’s leading with heart. The Grammy winner released “World’s Greatest!” on October 1, his first single in a year and a half and his first new music since a turbulent 2025 that included an arrest and hospitalization during a mental health crisis.
The song is dedicated to his mother, who died in August. A day before the release, he shared a clip of himself listening to a voicemail she left him, built around her favorite saying: “Walk by faith, not by sight.” In a statement, he said the phrase “resonates more and more” as he moves through life.
Written entirely by Lil Nas X and produced by C.WRAY and Steve Rusch, the track is an upbeat, rock-leaning pop anthem about getting knocked down and standing back up. The video, directed by Phillip Youmans and shot in Atlanta, pairs him with a younger version of himself as he pushes through a stalled dance rehearsal.
There’s no word yet on whether the single signals movement on Dreamboy, the long-teased follow-up to 2021’s Montero. For now, the message is simple: he’s still standing.
