The wait is over. Grace Carter has released When Saturn Returns, her long-awaited debut album, and the London singer-songwriter is calling it the best music she’s ever made.
The 13-track project arrived October 16 after years in the works. Carter stepped back to rethink her art and how it intersects with her life. Announcing the release, she admitted she had tears in her eyes and had started to believe it would never happen. “I made it on my terms,” she said.
Where her early work used music to process childhood pain, the new album leans into maturity and possibility. It’s soulful, reflective songwriting built around her powerhouse vocals.
The rollout began with the soulful single “White,” followed by “Party Baby,” co-written with Emilie Walcott. The song tackles the pressure so many people in their twenties and thirties feel to settle down and start a family. “Writing this song felt so validating,” Carter said.
Carter first broke through in 2017 with “Silence.” She went on to tour with Dua Lipa and placed third in BBC Music’s Sound of 2019 poll.
