Shaboozey and Kehlani Turn Heartbreak Into a Western Ballad

Shaboozey has never been shy about blending genres, and “Bullets & Blades” might be the clearest proof yet. The track, pulled from his sprawling concept album The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, pairs him with Kehlani for a slow-burning duet that trades gunslinger bravado for raw emotional weight. Strings and acoustic guitar do most of the talking, leaving room for two voices that were built to contrast: his textured rasp against her smooth, aching runs.

The song sits at the emotional center of the album’s revenge saga, and Shaboozey has said the writing felt bigger than any one person. “I would say everybody. All of us collectively as people wrote it,” he explained, adding that it’s “a hard song not to cry to” given how universal the pain in it feels.

Kehlani reportedly wrote her own verses for the track, and it shows. Rather than showing up as a feature, she plays like a second character in Shaboozey’s Western world, softening the story without losing its edge. It’s a reminder that his crossover success was never a fluke, it’s craftsmanship.
