Carly Rae Jepsen is getting personal again. “Motivation,” out now via Interscope Records, is the latest single from her upcoming 24-track double album Day and Night, due September 18. Pulled from the “night” half of the project, the track pairs a glittering, house-inspired production with lyrics about inherited family patterns and the cost of becoming yourself.
Jepsen co-wrote the song with Cole M.G.N., who produced it alongside Kyle Shearer. She’s said the idea started while back in her hometown, where the sound of leaves crunching underfoot suggested a rhythm. Thinking through her family’s high expectations, the song became her way of making peace with those dynamics. She called it “our little family anthem,” adding that she hopes it resonates for chosen families too.
The single arrives with a Jeremy O. Harris-directed music video, released just months after Jepsen welcomed her first child with husband Cole M.G.N. Day and Night, will be her first album since 2023’s, The Loveliest Time.
