Ari Lennox Sets the Mood With Smoky New Single “Hookah Baby”

Ari Lennox is trading heartbreak for a haze of good vibes on “Hookah Baby,” a preview of her upcoming deluxe album Vacancy: Late Checkout. The track leans into warm basslines, jazzy horns, and steady percussion, creating exactly the kind of smoky lounge atmosphere its title promises.

Co-written with Alivia Blue and produced by Tommy Brown and Leather Jacket, the song finds Ari settling into a carefree, present-tense mood rather than overthinking love. “Shisha burnin’, take me higher, room all foggy, I’m still flyin’,” she sings, painting a night that blurs into itself in the best way.

It’s Ari’s first new music since Vacancy, which earned widespread critical praise earlier this year even as its commercial numbers undersold the acclaim. With a deluxe edition on the way and a packed year behind her, including a 31-city tour and a BET Awards tribute performance, “Hookah Baby” feels like Ari settling comfortably into her groove, no drama required.
