Kacey Musgraves is trimming down her upcoming Middle of Nowhere tour, and she is doing it quietly. Three shows have been scrapped, including what was set to be the tour’s opening night on August 20 at Chicago’s United Center, along with dates at Boston’s TD Garden on August 29 and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on September 2. Ticket holders were notified directly by Ticketmaster, with refunds promised within a couple weeks.
Musgraves has not addressed the cancellations publicly, but sources close to the situation say there is nothing to worry about. The three dropped shows were all added onto the schedule after the tour’s original rollout in April, and the plan is simply to revert back to the initial lineup. That means the tour will now kick off as first planned on August 21, which happens to be Musgraves’ birthday.
The tour is in support of her seventh studio album, also called Middle of Nowhere, which arrived in May through the newly relaunched Lost Highway Records. The project debuted in the top 10 across seven Billboard charts and marked her best sales week ever, powered heavily by vinyl. It features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings and Gregory Alan Isakov.
While fans online speculated about everything from health concerns to soft ticket sales, those close to the situation insist it is purely a scheduling adjustment. Musgraves, for her part, seems unbothered, recently sharing vacation photos from Greece. The tour’s remaining dates, including a two night stand at Madison Square Garden, are still on as planned.
