Kacey Musgraves is staying in Texas and heading across the border. She announced Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes on October 22, a 16-song companion to her May album Middle of Nowhere, arriving January 15, 2027 on Lost Highway Records.
The project features 11 new originals and five covers, and two songs, “Weekend in Texas” and “Mi Tesoro,” her take on a classic norteño song, hit streaming at midnight ET on October 23. Other tracks include “Pretty Horses,” “Hard Conversations,” “Caballero,” “Denim on Denim” and “Desert Eyes,” along with “All My Exes (Kacey’s Version)” and a cover of “Before the Next Teardrop Falls.”
The Spanish-language thread runs deep. Intocable joins her on a Spanish version of “Uncertain, TX,” a song they previously recorded together, and “Tú Solo Tú” was recorded live in Mexico City with Mariachi Oro de América.
The release expands the Texas-soaked sound of Middle of Nowhere, her first full-length in two years after 2024’s Deeper Well, and blends country songwriting with regional Mexican influences. That album arrived with pedal steel, accordion and dancehall rhythms, plus guest turns from Willie Nelson, Billy Strings, Miranda Lambert and Gregory Alan Isakov.
With “Dry Spell” already behind her this year, Musgraves is making a case that she is just getting started on this chapter.
