Josh Groban and Jennifer Hudson Bring the House Down at MSG

Madison Square Garden has hosted its share of legendary nights, but Friday’s co-headlining concert from Josh Groban and Jennifer Hudson landed squarely among them. Two of the most celebrated voices in contemporary music shared the Garden’s stage for an evening that was equal parts spectacle and pure, unfiltered feeling.

Groban brought the night in support of Gems, his 2025 collection of beloved ballads, leaning into the sweep and grandeur that has made him one of the most consistent live draws of his generation. Crowd favorites like “You Raise Me Up” and “To Where You Are” drew the kind of reverent silence that only happens when a room collectively holds its breath. His Broadway background added theatrical dimension to the staging, the lighting design moving between intimate and enormous with the precision you’d expect from a 16-city arena run.

But the evening’s most electric moments belonged to Jennifer Hudson. The EGOT winner came ready, working through her catalog with the kind of vocal authority that silences any room. A medley of songs from Dreamgirls stopped the night cold. “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” shook the rafters at The Garden, a performance so visceral it felt almost unfair to witness live. Hudson also dug into her deeper catalog, performing “Where You At” — the soulful deep cut fans have long called “Deliver” — before paying homage to the Queen of Soul herself with a stunning rendition of Aretha Franklin‘s “A Natural Woman” that had the entire arena on its feet.

One of the night’s biggest surprises, Rapper and boyfriend Common walked out from the wings, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The couple performed “Glory,” a powerful anthem that has become one of the most resonant protest songs of the last decade. Watching them deliver it together inside one of the world’s most iconic arenas gave the song a new weight entirely.

Hudson wasn’t done. She returned to the stage later in the evening for a special duet with Groban — one we’ll leave for future concertgoers to discover for themselves. Let’s just say it earned every second of the standing ovation that followed.

Friday’s show was the kind of night that justifies the arena format — big voices, big room, and an audience that came ready to feel something. Both artists delivered.
