Chris Brown Pleads Guilty To Affray Over London Nightclub Attack

Chris Brown‘s long running legal saga in the UK has reached a turning point. The singer pleaded guilty Friday to affray at Southwark Crown Court over a 2023 altercation at Tape, a private members club in London’s Mayfair neighborhood. His vocal coach and friend, Omololu Akinlolu, entered the same plea.

Prosecutors say Brown struck music producer Abraham Diaw twice in the head with a tequila bottle before Diaw was punched and kicked while on the ground, all caught on the club’s surveillance cameras in front of a packed room. As part of the plea deal, more serious charges against both men, including assault, attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, were dropped.

A senior Crown Prosecution Service attorney did not mince words after the hearing, calling it a vicious and unprovoked attack carried out in a crowded nightclub. Brown and Akinlolu were both released on bail and are due back in court on October 26 for sentencing, where they face up to three years behind bars.

The case has trailed Brown for years, with the singer previously denying the charges before this plea. Despite the ongoing legal battle, Brown was allowed to continue his Breezy Bowl tour, surrendering his passport at each stop as a bail condition. Fans have continued showing up in force, even as the courtroom drama plays out an ocean away.

Sentencing in October will determine what comes next for the singer, whose career has long run parallel to a string of legal controversies.
