Carly Rae Jepsen is glowing, literally and figuratively, on her new single “After All.” The track is the second release from her upcoming double album, Day and Night, following lead single “On Wires,” and it finds the pop star trading her usual sheen for something warmer and more lived in. Written with longtime collaborators Kyle Shearer and Nate Cyphert, with Shearer also producing, the song leans soulful and glistening, built on skittering drums and delicate piano before a backing choir lifts the chorus into something brighter and more expansive.
Lyrically, “After All” finds Jepsen musing on how becoming a wife and mother has reshaped her sense of identity and the choices that built her life. The accompanying Aerin Moreno-directed video finds her, very visibly pregnant, wandering through the sunlit aftermath of a dinner party the night before, with flickers of celebrations from years past woven throughout.
Day and Night arrives September 18 through Interscope, a sprawling 24-track project split between its daytime and nighttime halves. If “After All” is any indication, Jepsen is entering this new chapter with clarity, warmth, and a whole lot of glow.
