Durand Bernarr is sitting on the couch and asking the hard questions. The Grammy-winning R&B vocalist has released “Am I Okay?!,” the latest single ahead of his forthcoming self-titled album BERNARR., set to arrive May 1. The track trades the theatricality Bernarr is known for in favor of something more inward — a brooding electric guitar and bass-driven funk instrumental that frames a raw conversation with his therapist. “For a small piece of your time, I’ll pay a fee / Just to sit here on this couch and bare my soul,” he opens.
Built from an original Miguel demo with additional co-writing from Sevyn Streeter, the song’s production hums low and deliberate, never rushing toward resolution. The chorus circles the same unanswered question eight times before landing on a quiet plea: “Might just figure it out, wanna figure it out / Could you figure it out with me?” BERNARR, and features collaborations with Khalid, Big Sean, Vic Mensa, BJ The Chicago Kid, and James Fauntleroy, with production from Raphael Saadiq, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Troy Taylor among others.
