“Rein Me In” just made history that stood untouched since 1953. Sam Fender and Olivia Dean‘s duet logged its 19th week at No. 1 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart, surpassing Frankie Laine‘s 18 week run with “I Believe” to become the longest running chart topper the country has ever seen.
The track had a long road to get there. Originally released on Fender’s 2025 album “People Watching,” the version featuring Dean arrived that June and took nearly eight months to finally hit No. 1 in February, a run that only strengthened after the song won Song of the Year at the 2026 BRIT Awards. Along the way it knocked out Wet Wet Wet’s three decade old record and matched Bryan Adams‘ longest consecutive reign before finally claiming the all time crown outright.
Fender didn’t hold back his reaction. “Completely lost for words, thank you so much to Olivia Dean and the fans for making this song the juggernaut that it is,” he said. “Can’t believe we broke the UK record!” The Official Charts Company marked the occasion by presenting him with a Record Breaker Award.
Dean celebrated the milestone in her own way, bringing Fender out during her headlining Lollapalooza set for their first ever U.S. performance of the song together. It’s Fender’s first UK No. 1 single, and Dean’s second following “Man I Need.” With 19 weeks and counting behind it, “Rein Me In” isn’t just a hit anymore, it’s a piece of chart history.
