Charli XCX has unveiled “Chains of Love,” a new single that offers a glimpse of her upcoming album Wuthering Heights. The track features sweeping strings and dramatic flair, marking a departure from the hyperpop sound of her last album Brat. “Chains of Love” appears on the soundtrack to Emerald Fennell’s forthcoming Wuthering Heights film adaptation, for which Charli has written an entire concept album.
Charli noted that what began as a request for one song evolved into a full record as she immersed herself in the story’s dark romance. “I wanted to dive into a persona, into a world that felt undeniably raw, wild, sexual, gothic… It was all totally other from the life I was currently living,” she wrote of the project’s inspiration. With its lush production and aching melody, “Chains of Love” sets an emotional tone for the album. Fans can hear the single now, as it also soundtracks the new film trailer ahead of the album’s February 13 release.
