Demi Lovato Announces Ninth Album ‘It’s Not That Deep,’ Sets Release Date

Demi Lovato is kicking off a new musical era — and she insists It’s Not That Deep. The pop star announced on social media that her ninth studio album, titled It’s Not That Deep, will be released on October 24. The 11-track album marks a sharp turn into dance-pop for Lovato, 33, after her last project leaned into a hard rock sound. It’s executive produced by hitmaker Zhone (known for work with Charli XCX and Kylie Minogue) and features recent singles “Fast” and “Here All Night.”

Lovato says the album’s title doubles as her current mantra. “This music is a perfect reflection of where I’m at today. It was such a freeing experience to let loose and have fun with it,” she said of making the record, adding that It’s Not That Deep is “meant for late nights and dancefloors.” The upbeat direction comes after years of Lovato pouring her heart into soul-baring ballads and pop-rock anthems about struggle and recovery. Now, the singer is in a happier, more carefree headspace. “I realized it’s not that deep anymore,” Lovato explained of her lighter approach, noting that the phrase became the ethos of the album.

It’s Not That Deep will be Lovato’s first new studio release since 2022’s Holy Fvck, which debuted in the Billboard Top 10. Beyond music, Lovato has kept busy acting in the horror film Tow and even authoring a forthcoming cookbook, but she’s putting the focus back on fun, danceable pop music as she enters this next chapter.
