Bowie80 Turns David Bowie’s 80th Birthday Into a Year-Long Global Celebration

The Starman’s milestone is getting the full-scale treatment. David Bowie‘s estate has launched Bowie80, a worldwide run of events, exhibits, releases, collaborations and fan experiences marking what would have been the icon’s 80th birthday on January 8, 2027.

The celebration kicks off at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where a Bowie80 pop-up shop opens in mid-November and runs into January at the museum and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. During his birthday weekend, the Rock Hall will host educational presentations, trivia, music, photo ops and an exhibition featuring photography that has never been displayed or published.

In February, Morrison Hotel Gallery opens “Strange Fascination” in New York City and West Hollywood, a photo exhibition spanning six of Bowie’s most iconic personas, including previously unreleased images from the estate’s archives.

The music gets a bold reimagining too. “BOWIE (breaking) GLASS,” a live symphonic production pairing Bowie’s original recordings with live vocalists, musicians and orchestra in dialogue with composer Philip Glass, premieres in Copenhagen in spring 2027.

Across the pond, the immersive show “David Bowie: You’re Not Alone” expands from London’s Lightroom to Manchester, Brighton and Hamburg, while the V&A’s “David Bowie: On Tour” carries pieces from his 90,000-item archive through Dundee and Blackpool, with more stops planned through 2029.

Fans can also shop exclusive Bowie80 merch now, with brands including Girl Skateboards, Roots of Fight and Stoned Immaculate rolling out themed collections throughout the anniversary year.
