U2 is heading back to stadiums, and they are not being modest about it. The band announced its 2027 tour on October 15 and named it The Greatest Show on Earth, a title that came with a built-in challenge.
“It’s a dare, to ourselves as much as anyone,” the band said of the name, framing the goal as delivering the best night of anybody’s life.
The first leg lands in Latin America. The band plays Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros on February 23 and 26, São Paulo’s Estadio MorumBIS on March 10 and 12, and Buenos Aires’ Estadio River Plate on March 23 and 25. Beck opens the first six shows, and Europe, North America and Ireland are set to follow with details to come.
The announcement arrived alongside “The Greatest Show on Earth,” the third single from the new album Carnaval De Luz, due November 13 on Interscope. The song was co-written with Brian Eno, and Anton Corbijn directed the video, filmed in the California desert.
Fans can get ahead of the crowd. A subscriber presale opens October 19 at 10 a.m. local time through U2.com, with general on-sale following on October 22.
It marks the band’s return to stadium scale after the Joshua Tree Tour, which wrapped in Mumbai in December 2019 and drew nearly 3 million fans, and after 40 sold-out nights at the Sphere. The band also played a surprise Dublin show on Grafton Street to mark its 50th anniversary.
