Tate McRae is back, and she’s rewriting the rules. The Canadian pop star released “Housewife” on October 15, the lead single from her upcoming fourth studio album and her first new music since the deluxe edition of So Close to What in 2025.
Don’t let the title fool you. The song flips the domestic stereotype on its head. McRae sings about making her own money and providing for herself, wanting a partner without needing one. She has described it as a song about “a woman who can’t be contained.”
The tease started with the cover art: McRae in a red bikini and sunglasses, pushing a pram stuffed with cash across a manicured mansion lawn. The video keeps the fantasy going. It was shot in the South of France and features yacht scenes, a sailor cap and living-room dance breaks with plenty of Britney Spears nods.
McRae had been lying low since wrapping the Miss Possessive Tour, apart from festival sets at Osheaga and Lollapalooza. She was also lined up to perform the song live for the first time at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on October 18. There’s no date yet for the new album.
