SZA is not holding back on AI

The Grammy-winning artist took to Instagram over the weekend to publicly condemn musicians who use AI music generators, directing particular fire at platforms like Suno and calling out producer Diplo by name. Her posts, which appeared across both her main account and her private page, have since spread widely across the internet.

“Ionno who needs to hear this but Diplo has equity in Suno and is actively attempting to train it on the best and brightest Black minds of writers and producers,” she wrote on her private account. She went further, pointing to the racial imbalance she sees in the technology’s reach: “We make up 13% of the American population yet influence the world with our sound and perspective. I AINT HEARD A WHITE AI SONG YET.”

On her main account, SZA revealed that a search for her name showed AI models had been trained on 238 of her songs, writing plainly that any musician who supports what she called “degenerate shit” is “DISGUSTING.”

Diplo, who has previously spoken positively about Suno and AI technology, has not publicly addressed SZA’s claims about his alleged equity stake. A Suno spokesperson declined to comment and directed attention to a post from the company’s chief product officer defending its training practices and safeguards.

SZA’s remarks arrive amid broader industry tension. Jack Antonoff recently called AI music supporters “godless whores,” while producers Will.i.am and Timbaland have both invested in AI companies. Sony Music, which owns SZA’s label RCA Records, remains in active litigation against Suno.
