Ariana Grande’s recent trip to Singapore for the Wicked: For Good premiere took a frightening turn — but now justice has been served. The man who rushed at Grande on the red carpet and grabbed the pop star in an alarming fan encounter has been sentenced to nine days in jail by a Singapore court. The offender, 26-year-old Australian Johnson Wen, pleaded guilty to a charge of public nuisance over the Nov. 13 incident, according to local reports.
Video of the red carpet shocker shows Grande, 32, being approached at high speed by a man who breached security. Wen — known online by the moniker “Pyjama Man” — sprinted toward the singer-actress and briefly managed to put his arm around her, pulling Grande close before stunned security personnel and co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened. Grande appeared visibly shaken in the moments after the unwanted grab, but was unharmed as staff quickly whisked her away to safety.
In court, a judge rebuked Wen as “attention-seeking” and noted he wrongly assumed his brazen stunt would carry no consequences. Prosecutors also pointed to the man’s “glaring lack of remorse,” highlighting that Wen even posted his own footage of the incident on social media. (Wen has a history of similar antics, having rushed stages at concerts for Katy Perry and The Weeknd earlier this year.) For her part, Grande has not directly addressed the scare. The day after the premiere, she shared a grateful Instagram message — “thank you, Singapore. we love you” — pointedly focusing on fans’ support and the successful event rather than the frightening disruption.
