Funk virtuoso Thundercat has teamed up with singer Willow for a genre-blending new single called “ThunderWave.” The dreamy track pairs Thundercat’s signature bass grooves and falsetto vocals with Willow’s soulful voice. “ThunderWave” is the latest preview of Thundercat’s upcoming album Distracted, due out April 3 on the Brainfeeder label. The single’s lush production — co-produced by Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin — gives it a cosmic vibe that lives up to its electrifying title.
“Creating this song together felt very much like the real us,” Thundercat said of working with Willow, whom he praised as “such a beautiful human.” The bassist (real name Stephen Bruner) expressed gratitude for the collaboration, calling their journey together “a fun one.” Fans of both artists have been buzzing about the unexpected pairing, which blends elements of funk, soul and alternative rock. “ThunderWave” follows several star-studded tracks Thundercat has released ahead of Distracted, including collaborations with Mac Miller and Lil Yachty, building excitement for the album’s release next month.
