Selena Gomez is picking up her wand again! The superstar is officially set to guest star in Season 2 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place – and she’s just as excited as the fans. Gomez, 32, confirmed her return as Alex Russo by sharing behind-the-scenes photos from set this week. In one Instagram post on June 26, she’s seen holding Alex’s signature sparkly red wand, captioned simply: “Just feels right.” For millions who grew up on Disney’s original Wizards of Waverly Place, seeing Selena back in wizard mode indeed feels very right.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is a new spin-off sequel to the beloved sitcom, focusing on the Russo siblings in adulthood. Season 1, which aired in 2024, followed Selena’s former co-star David Henrie (Justin Russo) as the patriarch of a magical family – and even featured Gomez in a surprise cameo during the premiere and finale. Now, with Season 2 in production, Gomez is returning in a larger guest role. The actress-singer is also a co-executive producer on the series, working closely with Henrie to recapture the old magic. Henrie, who leads the show and produces it, recently teased that “so many surprises [are] in store for this second season” and promised the new episodes will serve “a big warm hug to the original fans.”
On social media, Selena shared another adorable on-set photo: she and Henrie lounging on the Russo living room couch, grinning ear to ear. “We want to do this forever… luv you brudder,” she wrote, using Alex’s old nickname for her brother. The nostalgia is strong – it’s been over a decade since Wizards ended in 2012. Season 2 will pick up after a cliffhanger where Justin’s children developed powers and learned they’ll eventually face a family wizard competition (shades of the original series’ finale). With Alex Russo back in the mix to help guide her nieces and nephews – and maybe butt heads with her brother – fans are ecstatic. Disney has not revealed the exact premiere date, but Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2 is expected later this year on Disney Channel and Disney+.
