Netflix Teams with HYBE and YouTube Star Alan Chikin Chow

Netflix is diving into the K-pop phenomenon with some help from a social media superstar. The streaming giant has picked up a new scripted series co-created by YouTube megastar Alan Chikin Chow in partnership with HYBE America – the U.S. arm of the K-pop powerhouse behind BTS. The yet-untitled show will follow a “misfit crew of aspiring pop idol rejects” at an elite arts academy who form a co-ed band, promising plenty of high drama, pop music dreams and dance moves along the way.

Chow, 26, is one of the world’s most-watched digital creators, known for comedic shorts that have earned him over 130 million followers online. Now he’ll serve as an executive producer and creative force on this Netflix project, teaming with HYBE’s film/TV chief James Shin. Uniquely, the show’s young cast will also release original songs and effectively debut as a real-life idol group in tandem with the series – blurring the line between fiction and pop reality.

In a statement about the collaboration, Chow said the series “brings together extraordinary creative talent” across Netflix and HYBE to launch a franchise designed to “inspire creativity, spark joy, and impart timeless life lessons” for a new generation. HYBE’s Shin added that with a visionary like Chow on board, they intend to “produce a groundbreaking series that expands audiences, possibilities, and how fandom is built from day one.” No title or release date has been announced yet, but with K-pop training meeting Netflix’s global platform, this unique project is already shaping up to be one to watch for pop fans.
