Broadway’s Best: The Big Winners of the 2025 Tony Awards

Broadway’s biggest night delivered drama, excitement, and emotional speeches as the 2025 Tony Awards crowned this year’s winners. Hosted by Cynthia Erivo at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 8, the ceremony saw new productions and veteran stars alike taking home theater’s highest honors. “Maybe Happy Ending” was named Best Musical, while “Purpose” won Best Play, cementing their status as the standout new works of the season. In the revival categories, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard” triumphed as Best Revival of a Musical and the timely satire “Eureka Day” was awarded Best Revival of a Play.

The night’s acting awards were dominated by a mix of fresh faces and acclaimed performers. Former Glee star Darren Criss earned Best Actor in a Musical for his turn as a lovelorn android in Maybe Happy Ending. “A lot of humans got me here,” Criss quipped onstage, joking about playing a robot. He grew heartfelt as he dedicated the Tony to his wife Mia, thanking her for “allowing this crazy upheaval” of Broadway life while raising their two young children. On the actress side, pop singer-turned-stage star Nicole Scherzinger won Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. Accepting her first Tony through happy tears, Scherzinger urged aspiring performers, “Don’t give up,” reflecting on her long journey from pop fame to Broadway acclaim.

In the play categories, Succession alum Sarah Snook took home Best Actress in a Play for her tour-de-force performance in the solo show The Picture of Dorian Gray. “This means so much for a little Australian girl to be here on Broadway,” Snook said, beaming as she held her Tony statuette. Cole Escola won Best Actor in a Play for the dark comedy Oh, Mary!, edging out Hollywood icon George Clooney (nominated for Good Night, and Good Luck). Other major winners included Natalie Venetia Belcon (Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Buena Vista Social Club) and Francis Jue (Best Featured Actor in a Play, Yellow Face).

The evening was filled with memorable moments, from Erivo’s show-stopping opening number to surprise cameos like Keanu Reeves joining a musical skit. But ultimately it was the winners’ heartfelt speeches that stole the show – a celebration of Broadway’s resilience and the artists who make it shine.
