Britney Spears Checks Into Rehab Following DUI Arrest

Britney Spears has voluntarily entered a treatment facility following her DUI arrest last month, multiple outlets have confirmed. The 44-year-old pop icon was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol on March 4 in Ventura County after officers observed her driving erratically at high speed on U.S. 101. Spears showed signs of impairment involving a combination of alcohol and drugs and was released the following morning. She is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on May 4.

A representative for Spears addressed the situation in a statement at the time of the arrest: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”

Sources close to the singer told outlets that those in her inner circle had been urging her to seek help for some time, and that she ultimately agreed. “She realizes she hit rock bottom,” one insider said. The treatment program is reportedly 30 days, though sources note she could remain longer. Her sons Sean, 20, and Jayden, 19, are said to be strongly supportive of the decision.

Former husband Sam Asghari also weighed in. “I think that everyone deserves privacy,” he said. “I hope that the press has learnt from the past, that they give her the privacy that she needs.”
