R&B star Brandy is apologizing and explaining after a mid-show scare in Chicago. During an Oct. 18 concert at the United Center – part of her joint “The Boy Is Mine” tour with fellow singer Monica – Brandy abruptly walked off stage in the middle of a performance and did not return, leaving fans bewildered. Now the 46-year-old singer has broken her silence, revealing that a health emergency forced her to end the show early.
In a candid Instagram post on Oct. 19, Brandy addressed the incident and told fans she was sorry for the sudden exit. “I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago,” she wrote. Brandy explained that after “weeks of nonstop rehearsals,” she was overcome by “dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint” on stage. Given her condition, “everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance,” she noted. The Grammy winner even attempted to rally and return to perform, but with such a technically demanding show, it became “impossible to fully connect sonically with the production” while she was unwell.
As Brandy headed offstage to seek medical attention, Monica, 44, carried on and finished the set solo – meaning the audience went home without the duo’s signature finale, “The Boy Is Mine.” Brandy made sure to thank her longtime friend and tourmate for stepping up under pressure. “I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism,” she wrote, adding that she saw a doctor immediately and has “taken the proper precautions” going forward. Reassuring fans, Brandy vowed to return to the stage “stronger and more grateful than ever” at the very next tour stop. The songstress’s heartfelt apology and transparency earned praise from supporters, as the show indeed went on in Indianapolis the following night with Brandy back beside Monica.
