Ariana Grande’s “Petal” Blooms to No. 1

Marking Her Best Opening Week in Seven Years

Ariana Grande has landed her seventh career No. 1 album, and it’s her biggest one in years. Petal debuted atop the Billboard 200 this week with 295,000 equivalent album units, the singer’s strongest opening week of the entire decade and her best since 2019’s, Thank U, Next.

The number marks a sharp jump from her last album, Eternal Sunshine, which opened with 227,000 units in 2024. Petal also gives Grande her biggest sales week in more than ten years, with album sales alone accounting for 168,000 of the total units.

Grande shared her gratitude with fans on Instagram, reposting the chart news with a simple message: “thank you from the bottom of my heart.” The day before, she’d posted a series of behind the scenes photos and videos from the album’s creation, captioning the set “petal forever.”

The seven No. 1 albums now tie Grande with Janet Jackson and Lady Gaga for the fifth most among solo women in Billboard 200 history, trailing only Taylor Swift, Barbra Streisand, Madonna and Beyoncé. “Petal” arrived amid heavy conversation around the singer, including her recent comments about stepping back from public life, and that attention appears to have only fueled the album’s momentum.

Grande wrapped the North American leg of her Eternal Sunshine Tour the same week “Petal” hit No. 1, closing things out with a Friday night show in Chicago. With few major releases on the immediate horizon, she has a real shot at holding the top spot for a second week before facing potential competition from Phoebe Bridgers‘ upcoming album.
