Singer-songwriter JP Saxe has released Make Yourself At Home, a deeply personal EP that serves as the second installment of his new multi-part album project (following April’s Articulate Excuses). The seven-song set continues Saxe’s candid exploration of heartbreak, healing, and self-awareness. Where part one delved into recognizing his own patterns and flaws, Make Yourself At Home focuses on the messy process of change and acceptance. Each track is intimate in tone, blending gentle pop and R&B touches with Saxe’s soul-baring lyrics and warm vocals.
On the moody piano ballad “I Haven’t Said Enough,” Saxe lays his anxiety bare, asking, “If I turn off my head, will it still turn back on?” Such raw questions give the EP an introspective heart, though there’s a newfound sense of grace in his writing too. The closing track, “How To Stay Human,” offers a tender lullaby of reassurance. Even amid doubt, Saxe has learned to exhale a bit – the arrangements feel more relaxed and homespun than before. “Consciousness is exhausting,” the Toronto native admitted recently, a sentiment reflected in these songs. From the swirling bilingual duet “Strangers” (featuring Argentine pop star TINI) to the title track, Make Yourself At Home invites listeners to witness a young artist navigating growth in real time, flaws and all.
