Daniel Seavey Returns with Honest Pop-Rock Anthem “Blame It On You”

Daniel Seavey – known to many from his days in chart-topping boy band Why Don’t We – has re-entered the chat as a solo artist, dropping a vibrant new single called, “Blame It On You.” The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist released the track on August 1 via Atlantic Records, expanding the storyline of his debut solo album Second Wind (which first arrived in March). “At first, this song was just a cheeky take on giving into temptation,” Seavey explains of the inspiration behind “Blame It On You.” “But the more I listened back to it, the more it resonated on a deeper level with me. It turned into a quiet shedding of shame – a line drawn in the sand for myself.” Indeed, there’s a newfound sense of freedom in his delivery. Over a driving pop beat and addictive hook, Seavey sings about owning up to mistakes and desires without self-blame. The production (co-crafted by Daniel with Andrew Wells) leaves some rough edges intact – a deliberate choice. “It’s the first time in a while I let something a little rough around the edges stay that way,” he says, noting that he’s both “terrified and excited” to share such an unfiltered piece of himself. For longtime fans, who have created a supportive community around Daniel’s music, that honesty is exactly what they’ve been craving. Many immediately took to social media to praise “Blame It On You” as Seavey’s “song of the summer,” celebrating the track’s danceable vibe and heartfelt message.

“Blame It On You” also marks a triumphant moment in Seavey’s artistic journey. Over the past two years, the 24-year-old navigated a turbulent transition out of his former band amid legal battles and personal struggles, emerging on the other side with creative independence and a clear vision. His Second Wind project – executive-produced by Michael Pollack – laid the groundwork, with Billboard noting upon its release that “his journey is just getting started.” Now this new single continues that momentum. Seavey is currently on the road for his Second Wind Tour (after selling out venues like LA’s The Novo and NYC’s Irving Plaza earlier this spring). In fact, he premiered “Blame It On You” live for the first time in Australia this week as he resumes touring Down Under. The crowd’s ecstatic reaction hinted that this cathartic anthem is already connecting. With its blend of nostalgic pop-rock flair and diary-honest lyrics, “Blame It On You” reintroduces Daniel Seavey as a solo artist hitting his stride. Against the odds, he’s back – brighter, bolder, and ready to let the music speak for itself. And if there’s any blame to assign here, it’s that this catchy track will be stuck in your head for days. Enjoy the ear candy, and welcome to Daniel’s new era.
