Netflix’s hit series Beef is getting a high-profile musical upgrade for its second season: Finneas has signed on to compose the score. The Oscar- and Grammy-winning songwriter, best known for co-writing megahits with his sister Billie Eilish, will craft original music for all eight new episodes of the dark comedy’s upcoming installment, set to premiere April 16.
Finneas, 25, has already spent the past year immersed in Beef’s world. “I spent the last 12 months in Beef land,” the musician said in a statement, adding that he’s “a true fan of this show” and “very honored and proud to be a part of it.” Series creator Lee Sung Jin (also known as Sonny Lee) is equally thrilled, calling Finneas “the brilliant mind behind most of the music that has soundtracked my life over the last decade.” Lee added that working with him is “an absolute honor” and praised Finneas’s talent for making “the darkest emotions sound achingly beautiful.”
This marks the first time Finneas will score a television series, after previously composing music for films like The Fallout and Vengeance. Beef’s second season is an anthology-style reboot featuring a brand-new cast and storyline, led by Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan. The critically acclaimed first season – starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong – became one of 2023’s buzziest shows. With Finneas now on board behind the scenes, season 2 is poised to strike a memorable chord with viewers when it returns next month on Netflix.
