Atlanta hitmaker Metro Boomin is gearing up to drop some summer heat. The multi-platinum producer announced that his new mixtape, titled A Futuristic Summa, will be released on July 22. Metro revealed the date and artwork on social media this week, posting a vibrant cover image alongside the caption “JULY 22 2025 #AFUTURISTICSUMMA.” The upcoming project will be a throwback to Metro’s mixtape roots – in fact, it’s being hosted by DJ Spinz, harkening back to the era of hosted mixtapes. And unlike his recent star-studded albums, Metro says this one features an “all-new cast” of collaborators instead of his usual lineup of frequent guests.
That means don’t expect the likes of Future or 21 Savage on every track; instead, Metro is bringing in fresh voices. Industry chatter points to appearances by names like Roscoe Dash, J Money and Quavo – a mix of up-and-comers and a few familiar faces in new combinations. In total, A Futuristic Summa is rumored to pack 20 new tracks, showcasing Metro Boomin’s signature production with a futuristic twist.
The mixtape’s cover art is full of easter eggs for fans. In a neon cityscape illustration, two kids play with water guns on a sidewalk – each wearing tribute t-shirts honoring late rap icons Takeoff and Young Scooter. Longtime listeners also spotted nods to Metro’s past works hidden in the artwork, including a pixelated version of his HEROES & VILLAINS album cover tucked among the buildings, and a sign reading “Boominati Don’t Trust You.” A Futuristic Summa comes on the heels of Metro’s massive 2024 run, when he teamed with Future for the back-to-back albums We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You. Now, Metro is striking out on his own with a solo mixtape that promises to introduce a new sonic landscape this season. He’s already given a taste with the lead single “Slide,” an upbeat collaboration with Roscoe Dash that dropped on July 4. If that track is any indication, A Futuristic Summa will deliver the kind of blockbuster hooks and hard-hitting beats that have made Metro one of hip-hop’s most sought-after producers – all while shining a spotlight on the next wave of talent. Mark your calendars for July 22, because Metro Boomin is about to prove once again that he came to bring the boom, all summer long.
