THE
PUSH STARS
writer: Roy Opochinski
When this reporter met the Push Stars before their recent
show at New York CityÕs Irving Plaza, everyone involved wondered
whether the noise that was invading the backstage area would
make the interview listenable. I was positive that it wouldnÕt
be a problem. And then I got back to the office. And listened.
I was wrong. The interview was really difficult to hear (and
even more difficult to transcribe.) So weÕre not going to
do that.
Instead, weÕll ask you to sit back and listen to the Push
Stars talk about their new album, one that bassist Dan McLoughlin
calls Òour best so far.Ó While the band members laughed and
admitted that nobody would ever say that their album stunk,
McLouglin explained that the ÒspontaneousÓ nature of the making
of the disc, during which they ÒdidnÕt get burned out when
learning the songs.Ó
Frontman Chris Trapper added, that when they went back and
listened to their old records, Òthere were a lot of curveballs
on each record -- we would do a Latin track here or a spoken
word track.Ó On this disc, they made an effort to make it
a Òmore conciseÓ record that ends up being somewhat Òdarker,
not bleak,Ó but a disc that McLoughlin said Òflows better
than our other records.Ó |
