BUCKCHERRY
written by Roy Opochinski
After
a four year break, Buckcherry returns to the rock scene with a
new album -- Fifteen -- new band members, and the same
old desire to rock and roll. Groovevolt spoke recently with guitarist
Keith Nelson about the rebirth of the band, recording an album
in 15 days for a new label, and filming their latest video.
Nelson spoke about the time away from Buckcherry. “It was totally,
completely necessary for [frontman] Josh [Todd] and I to take
some time away from each other,” Nelson said.
During the time away, the band recruited guitarist Steve D, drummer
Xavier Muriel, and bassist Jimmy Ashurst after an exhaustive search.
“We managed to find a group of guys who wanted to be in the band
for the right reasons. They wanted to make music.”
The resulting album was “a really perfect combination of luck,
timing, and hard work,” Nelson said. “We spent six months writing
and rehearsing” and Nelson is “proud” of the result. “It’s the
first time we had the chance to make a record on our own, without
a label or A&R guy. We got to make the record we wanted to make.”
