TIME
TO SHAKE UP THE MUSIC WORLD
Ubergroove delivers the Indies...
I've spent entirely too much time in these columns railing about
the dearth of quality music coming out of the major labels. Though
that seems to be changing a bit of late, most of the great stuff
to which I've recently been listening (like The Promise Ring's new
Wood/Water, Ed Harcourt's Here Be Monsters, and Lostprophets'
The Fake Sound of Progress to name three) unfortunately does
not fit the narrow niche that is today's radio.
More unfortunate is that this problem is not limited to the world
of rock and roll. Truly inspiring hip-hop is in the same boat. Narrow-minded
radio programmers are looking for a sound that sounds just like
every other sound out there. Originality is valued so long as you
sound just like Nas or Staind.
But like I said at the beginning, I've spent entirely too much time
in these columns railing about the dearth of quality music out there,
and not enough time doing something about it. Well, Groovevolt is
ready to do something about it. In a few weeks, we will re-launch
Ubergroove as a place indie bands and performers can call their
own.
Ubergroove will contain features, interviews, and album, single,
and concert reviews. We will give a voice to those talented artists
out there who, for whatever reason, have not yet made it big. Will
Ubergroove break any new bands? We sure hope so. But don't worry.
We are not going to ask the indies for a cut of the action when
they sign their first record deals. (Though we hope that they don't
forget us when they hit it big.)
Groovevolt recently posted an ad in the Indie Contact Newsletter
and has received a flood of submissions that we are currently evaluating.
If you have an indie band out there and want to see your band featured
on a site that gets over five million hits a month, send an email
to royo@groovevolt.com
and I will send you more information about how to submit your band's
CD.
Time to make some people famous. As for me, I have my eye on this
band from New York that deserves a bit more fame. More on them soon.
